Protective Effective of Schisandra Chinensis Extract on Ischemia-Reperfu- sion Injury in Dog Heart

A model of acute ischemia-reperfusion injury was used. SOD,LPO of venous blood,infarct size and infarct degree were determined to evaluate the 

protective effect of Schisandra Chinesis extract (SDE)on ischemia-reperfusion injury in dog heart. The results showed that SOD activity was 

enhanced, LPO content lowered,infarct size reduced and infarct degree lowered. The results also indicated that SCE have better protective effect 

on ischemia-reperfusion in dog heart.


Schisandra Chinesis extract is a famous traditional medicine in Asia and has been used to protect liver from damage by enhancing the hepatic 

antioxidant system. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of Schisandra Chinesis extract on lipid metabolism and peroxidation 

levels in hamsters with high fat and high cholesterol diet. Hamsters were randomly divided into four groups



Schisandra Chinesis extract is a famous traditional medicine in Asia and has been used to protect liver from damage by enhancing the hepatic 

antioxidant system. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of S. chinensis extract on lipid metabolism and peroxidation 

levels in hamsters with high fat and high cholesterol diet. Hamsters were randomly divided into four groups, including normal diet group fed

 diet containing 5% oil without cholesterol (normal diet, ND), control group fed diet with 8% oil and 0.2% cholesterol (control) and treatment

 groups fed the control diet with 0.4% (LSC) or 0.8% (HSC) S. chinensis extract. The triglyceride contents in both blood and liver were 

significantly decreased in HSC group. The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentration was also reduced in serum. In addition, 

HSC inhibits the formation of hepatic thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values and prolongs the lag phase of LDL oxidation. 

These results indicate that the S. chinensis extracts can modulate lipid metabolism and reduce lipid oxidation in the hamster model fed a high 

fat diet.
