Parching process of Schisandra chinensis extract improving its efficacy of anti-liver fibrosis

Parching process of Schisandra chinensis extract improving its efficacy of anti-liver fibrosis. The curative effect of medicinal herbs could be altered or enhanced after processing, in Chinese tradition, with parching or steaming. In this study, two parching process conditions, i.e., scorched-fried (FSSC) and charred-fried (FLSC) of  Schisandra chinensis extract, were employed to demonstrate their effect on the anti-liver fibrosis of the ethanol extract of  Schisandra chinensis extract. We used TGF-induced liver fibrosis in hepatic stellate cells (HSC) and monitored the mRNA level of collagen gene as the biomarker for the degree of liver fibrosis. The content of schizandrin in FSSC and FLSC were analyzed respectively by TLC and HPLC. The data showed that  Schisandra chinensis extract which was charred-fried had a stronger anti-liver fibrosis activity and schizandrin could be considered as a chemical marker for the quality control of SC parching process.
